But after just a few short weeks, UIUC students will find themselves back in session with the start of the Spring 2023 semester. To ensure students have the critical dates in mind for spring and summer 2023 at the University of Illinois, here’s a rundown of what you need to know to prepare for the upcoming terms at UIUC.

How long is winter break at the University of Illinois?

Students at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign have one month off for winter break, which runs from December 19th – January 17th.

Before leaving campus for winter break, students should ensure they are registered for their spring semester classes. Spring registration opened on November 17th and will close on January 17th.

The last day of Fall 2022 classes is December 7th, followed by a one-day reading period for students to study for finals. Exams then start on December 9th and run through the 16th, with no exams scheduled on the weekend days of the 10th and 11th. The Fall 2022 final exam schedule is now available on the website of the Office of the Registrar to allow students to plan the days they’ll need to be on campus for finals.

Commencement for those students graduating at the end of the fall semester will occur on December 19th. Fall semester grades will be available on students’ myIllini portal beginning on December 23rd, and students can view their academic standing on their portal beginning on January 7th.

When does the spring semester start at UIUC?

The first day of Spring 2023 classes at UIUC is Tuesday, January 17th.

This is also the final day for students to register for classes without incurring a $15 late fee. January 16th is the final day for students to cancel their registration for the Spring 2023 semester and receive a refund for tuition and fee payments already made to the university.

UIUC students have until January 23rd to add a course to their spring semester schedule and can drop courses until January 30th without an academic or financial penalty.

How many hours is a full schedule of classes at UIUC?

A student at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign is considered full-time when enrolled in courses totaling 12 credit hours per semester.

A full schedule of 12 credit hours amounts to four courses for the average student, but this may vary, especially for courses with lab components that take up more than three credit hours.
